The Knowledge Workshop on Klosterøya in Skien is an exciting transformation project that combines historic industrial architecture with modern office solutions. The building, which was originally part of Union Papirfabrikk, has undergone extensive rehabilitation and upgrading to meet today's demands for flexibility, sustainability and well-being.

History and location
With roots dating back to the 1950s and 60s, the building has a strong industrial history. After the closure of paper production in 2006, the Knowledge Workshop was completely renovated in 2008, and a new upgrade is now underway to give the building a modern look and functionality. The property is centrally located on Klosterøya, surrounded by the river, Uniontorget and a vibrant business environment with cafes, a fitness center and cultural offerings – just a few minutes walk from Skien city center.

The main thrust of the project

Establishment of a new, modern 3rd floor with an atrium for optimal light and high-quality office space.

Extension to the south with access to a roof terrace with a view of the river.

Upgrading of facades and windows for better lighting conditions and a holistic architectural expression.

Opening up the ground floor to create an inviting main entrance and social zones.

Facilities and environment
The Knowledge Workshop offers open office spaces, meeting rooms of various sizes, social zones and flexible multi-purpose rooms. The building is designed for collaboration and informal meeting spaces, and focuses on sustainability through the reuse of materials in line with TEK17.

Client and partners
The project is being developed by Bratsberg Eiendom in collaboration with contractor Seltor AS and the architectural firm Sted Arkitektur.
